Happy New Year Vancouver

Fri Jan 1, 2010, 5:59 AM by =mk87:iconmk87:
Apologies for the lack of updates - it's been a busy holiday season. We have great news though. #vancouver is now a Super Group! :D This means a lot of changes, new features, better organization, and our page can look more professional. We'll be adjusting the layout a little bit to see what works best, so bear with us while we make this transition. Groups is still new, and finding a way to make it work best for #vancouver will take a little bit of time. We are open to suggestions, so feel free to contribute your ideas.

:bulletblue: New Submission Guidelines :bulletblue:

Since becoming a Group, we've noticed some confusion with submission rules. Some members are submitting more than the 1 submission per week limit we had in place. We don't like to be forced to decline submission requests, but we also want to be fair to all our members. After giving this some thought, we have revised the submission rules - in your favour!

Effective immediately, members are now permitted to 3 submissions per any 7-day period. For example, you can send 3 submissions on a Monday, but then you won't be able to submit again until the following Monday. Or you could also submit on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, then you wouldn't be allowed to submit again until the next Monday. Pretty simple, isn't it? Please keep track of when you submit, so we don't have to decline your submission request. We're also parting with the monthly galleries. Submissions will now go in our Featured gallery.

Please keep in mind that we would like to keep our gallery Vancouver-related. We appreciate your cooperation.

:bulletblue: Olympic's Contest #1 :bulletblue:

Since it is now 2010, the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games are just around the corner. Let's show Vancouver to the world through art! The rules are simple. There are no rules! Well okay, maybe a couple. Your submission must be Vancouver-related, just as any other regular submission. Only 1 entry is allowed per person. The contest will run for 1 month, from today until February 1st. Winners will be announced on the day of the Opening Ceremonies (February 12th). You may change your submission as many times as you wish, so long as you remove your old submission first.

Prizes will be announced before the contest ends, but expect the usual journal features and possibly even more.

(Yes, we realize this says Olympic's Contest #1 ;))

More Club News

Fri Dec 11, 2009, 5:36 AM by =mk87:iconmk87:
Just wanted to let everyone know that the group is experiences some difficulties at the moment with submissions. It appears that many groups are being affected by this, but deviantART is aware of this and working to fix the issues. Keep in mind that Groups is still beta, therefore these kind of issues are to be expected. Please bear with us in the meantime. If you have trouble with submissions, please send us a note and we will do our best to get it sorted out ASAP. I apologize for any inconvenience.

In case you don't know how to submit, visit the group's monthly submissions gallery and click the button that says "+ Submit to This Folder". You may also submit while uploading a new deviation - just check the box while uploading to your gallery. Please keep in mind that the submission rules remain the same as in the past, however we will be revising the guidelines in the near future. For reference, please see the submission guidelines in our previous blog entry here - [link] (disregard the "How to Join" section).

It also appears that not many members agree with the latest devMeet schedule, so how about some more input on that? We understand some of you may be working, or might be on holidays at this time. It would be nice to have a meet before the end of the year, but maybe early to mid January might work out better for some.

Finally, as for the donations for our Super Group, I want to clear up a few things. First, I am glad to see some support for this. $5 a year to help us pay the bills isn't much to ask for, and is completely voluntary with no obligation. Donors will be added to a Super Members class with added perks which are yet to be finalized, but should be well worth it. I will not accept any donations until the upgrade has already taken place (sometime within the next month, I am hoping). Second, donations will only be accepted in person with cash, so no need to worry about sending personal information online, or PayPal, or any of that sort.

Thank you very much for your patience and support as we make the transition into a deviantART Group. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you find a bug, please let us know so we can do our best to fix it, or forward the report to deviantART if it is beyond our control. :)

News + Group Updates

Tue Dec 8, 2009, 6:15 AM by =mk87:iconmk87:
Well let me start by saying the new groups upgrade has started out to be quite the success, if I do say so myself. From an administration standpoint, I must say how much easier this is to manage, which is always a good thing! :)

As we are right now, #vancouver is only a regular group which has many limitations. I believe we could really benefit by upgrading to a Super Group. For example, we could bring back the nicer looking journal, which could also be used for easier navigation like in the past. Also, Super Groups have the benefit of a devMeets widget - something which is a main focus of our group. Increased customization, better layouts, and polls are just a few more perks of having a Super Group.

There is one major drawback though, and that is the cost. Regular price is $126/year, but for a limited time, we can upgrade for 50% off. $63 is still a pretty penny to pay though, so I do have a proposal which I would like to get feedback on. What I have in mind is asking users for a small $5 donation, and those who donate would be added to a "super members" class for a full year, with perks such as increased weekly submissions and access to exclusive contests (and maybe other suggestions?). Basically what I'm asking is how many people think this is a fair proposal and would like to help out with the cause?

Also, we'll be updating the submission guidelines and other rules very soon. For the time being, all current rules found in the previous journals are still in effect. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we transition to the new platform. Groups FTW! :D

One more thing. devMeet on Tuesday the 29th at 4:00pm at Robson Square. Sound good?

Hello Vancouver!!!

Fri Dec 4, 2009, 8:04 AM by =mk87:iconmk87:
Hello everyone! First off, I want to express my sincerest apologies for the lack of activity over the last couple of months. Without getting into detail, I have just been extremely busy, and haven't had much time to contribute to the club. Heck, even my own account has suffered a bit... All that aside though, today we have an EPIC announcement!

The Vancouver Club is no more. We are now The Vancouver Group! Bigger, better, and 100% fat-free! There are some drawbacks however, but please just bear with us. You will have to request to become a member yet again. Also, I want to let everyone know that all notes for submissions over the last several weeks were lost in the conversion process. I apologize the inconvenience.

Over the next few days, everything will be polished up and we'll be ready to rock once again. Say, how does a devMeet sound sometime between Christmas and New Years? :D

devMeet this Saturday!

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 23, 2009, 9:09 AM

Come one, come all!
We have a devMeet this Saturday evening. We're hoping as many members as possible are able to drop by. The notice is short, yes, but our polls this month have indicated interest for this specific date and location, so let's make this a success! When you arrive, just look for the sign. Could it be any simpler?

devMeet Details
Date: Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Vancouver Art Gallery (W Georgia St)
Bring: Yourself of course, a camera, sketchbook, or any other artistic medium. Also feel free to bring along another deviant you would like to invite to the club!
Plan: Simply have fun! Do some art, socialize, have a few laughs. This shall be epic!

See more on our devMeets page.

Submissions
We're glad to see more community involvement this month with submissions, but c'mon, we can do even better in October! We're all from Vancouver and the surrounding area, so we know everyone has some Vancouver-related artwork in some form or another. Let's share our Vancouver art with the world! Submissions are added to a collection directly linking to your art, so you have nothing to lose and more to gain. Full submission details are outlined here.

Vancouver Club Team
